John 4:5-6

5 So He came to a city of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. 6 Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour

Quickword: Rest

In a few days, my wife and I are going to take sometime off. I always looking forward to our vacation time but this year I’m excited for one reason and one reason only, beloved it, I’m tired and I want and I need to rest. The demands of work, ministry, family, and other commitments have caught up with me in these last days of June. In this text, Jesus had been teaching and baptizing disciples in Judea but he departed to Galilee and His journey took him or as the verses preceding this text says He needed to go through Samaria. When Jesus comes to the city of Sychar in Samaria, Jacobs well was there and Jesus being wearied or tired from His journey sat down at the well. The question I posed this morning is simply if you are tired from the journey of life, sit down and rest. I know there are things to do, ministry that needs to be done, situations that need to be handled, but I stopped by this morning to say to someone, sit down and rest. Sit down and rest and don’t feel bad about it. Jesus sat down at Jacobs well and Bible Scholars know the story, He encounters a woman at the well who has been ostracized by her community because she has had five husbands and the one she is with now is not her husband. I’ll deal with that in another post. Today, I say to you Mother, Father, Pastor, Preacher, Deacon, Minister of Music, Supervisor, Employee, Teachers, Students, and everyone else, take time to rest. Take a sabbatical, spend some time with God, do something that you want to do and don’t beat yourself up about it. I’m going to read, I’m going to do some writing. I’m going to eat what I want, I’m going to spend time with my spouse, family and friends but I’m going to rest because I’m tired. I pray that if you encounter this post and you are tired, I want to encourage you to rest. Take care id your physical, mental, spiritual and social health. Hear my clearly, there are definitely time to push yourself but just as there are times to push, there are times to rest. My brothers and my sisters, i'm praying for you amd I solicit your prayers. may the Lord grant you a period of rest, relaxation and renewal. Blessings!
