John 12:1-3

1 Then, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was [a]who had been dead, whom He had raised from the dead.

2 There they made Him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with Him.

3 Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.

Quickword: A Fragrance That Fills The House… My wife often lights scented candles throughout our house. Over the years I’ve grown accustomed to the fragrances that meet me when I enter our home. Here in today’s text, there is a fragrance that fills the house that will serve a monumental purpose. Mary, the sister of Lazurus who has been recently raised frim the dead while sitting at supper with Jesus anoints the feet of Jesus. She takes a pound of very costly oil, anoints the feet of Jesus and then wipe his feet with her hair. Many questioned this act and it’s purpose.

- First, anoint means to consecrate, to set apart. This act of Mary was in preparation for what Jesus would endure soon.

- Second, this anointing symbolizes that service to the Kingdom of God comes at a high price.

Third, the fragrace of the oil used to about Jesus filled the house.

The question this Quickword poses to each and everyone of us is what frangrace is left in the rooms, houses and places we enter. Does our spirit and service prepare others to for an introduction to the Christ. Do we leave the fragrance of love, joy, peace, understanding and long suffering? I pray when we depart from rooms, we don’t leave the stench of the world, hate, sadness, confusion, misunderstandings and impatience. Be assured that we all leave fragrances and the smell that fills the room upon our departure is evidence of our relationship with God through Christ Jesus. What fragrance are we leaving?
