Deuteronomy 18:21-22

21 And if you say in your heart, ‘How shall we know the word which the Lord has not spoken?’— 22 when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.

A Word From the Lord!

It is my belief that we are living in a time where as believers in Christ, we desire to hear a word from the Lord. There are times when persons proclaim they have a word from the Lord. Here me clearly, I believe there are persons given the gifts of prophecy. I also believe that there are persons who misuse or claim to have the gift of prophecy for personal gain. This text for me provides some guidelines on how to discern true prophecy.

- We need to study the word of God so that we are not easily taken advantage of.

- When a true prophet of God speaks, the proclamation comes to fruition.

- When a prophet speaks and the thing does not happen or come to pass, this prophecy has not been spoken by the Lord and we don’t need to be afraid.

- No matter the predicted punishment of prophecy directed at failed humanity, the prophet of God always provides a glimmer of hope.

The prophet Isaiah 53:5 proclaimed “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.”

Beloved as I look around and see the continued devastation of COVID-19, an unfair justice system, the impacts of systematic racism, a divided government, I take comfort in the words of the prophet that by His stripes we are healed. The Quickword from the Lord I leave with you today is that God will see us through!
