Exodus 13:20-22

20 So they took their journey from Succoth and camped in Etham at the edge of the wilderness. 21 And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night. 22 He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night from before the people.

Quickword: Directions for the Journey

As my wife and I were driving back to Texas from Georgia about three hours into the drive, I asked my wife if she wanted to drive. I typically will take the 1st leg of a long drive and do most or sometimes the entire drive. On yesterday, when I asked my wife to drive I was not tired or sleepy but was just led to ask her. We pulled in a gas station /convenience store for about 20 minutes and then got back on the road. As soon as we got back on the road the Waze travel app revealed about 20 miles up the road about 20 minutes earlier there had been a major crash. I don’t believe in luck, I believe in the hand of protection of God. I truly believe the Lord delayed us and we missed a major accident. The Lord was with us like in this text as he was the children of Israel, God was a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night to illuminate our paths.

- The Lord is a cloud by day to lead the way.

- The Lord is a pillar of fire by night to give us light

- The Lord is constantly with us to lead, guide and protect.

As we prepare to drive the last leg this morning, I thank God for being a cloud by day and pillar of fire by night. The Lord is always with us and even sometimes delays us so that we miss the danger that is ahead of us. My brothers and sisters take comfort in knowing that the Lord is present to provide directions as we journey through life, just follow His lead!
