Matthew 24:3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will bethe sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”

The events of Tuesday/ Day 3 of Holy Week, the Olivet Discourse are recorded in Matthew 21:23–24:51, Mark 11:20–13:37, Luke 20:1–21:36, and John 12:20–38.

Quickword: Jesus Goes to The Mount of Olives: Holy Week Day 3

The scriptures listed above paint a picture of the events of day 3 of Holy Week. The Quickword today is an attempt to summarize the events of the day. On the third day of Holy Week. Jesus and his disciples returned to Jerusalem. They passed the withered fig tree on their way, and Jesus spoke to his companions about the importance of faith. (Mark 11:11-26)

From the previous day, the religious leaders were angry that Jesus had cleared the temple of His Father of the money changers. It was here that they began to devise a plan to ambush him and have him arrested. He was able to escape their plans and made harsh judgement against them (Matthew 23:24-33). Later that afternoon, Jesus left the city and went with his disciples to the Mount of Olives. Jesus gave what is known as the the Olivet Discourse, a prophecy about the destruction of Jerusalem and the end of the age. He speaks, as usual, in parables, using symbolic language about the end times events, including His Second Coming and the final judgment.

Scripture indicates that this Tuesday was also the day Judas Iscariot negotiated with the Sanhedrin, the rabbinical court of ancient Israel, to betray Jesus (Matthew 26:14-16). After a long day of confrontation and warnings about the future, once again, Jesus and the disciples returned to Bethany to stay the night.
